AVID in the Classroom 10/13/2022

Shared by Ms. Wilhelm - 8th Grade ELA

8th Grade ELA Students are reading “The Crossover” by Kwame Alexander, which is a novel in verse. What makes this novel unique is that it uses many different forms of poetry that students then are experimenting with in their own writing. Found poetry allowed students to use words written by someone else and create new meanings.

Found Poetry: Found poetry is a type of poetry created by taking words, phrases, and sometimes whole passages from other sources and reframing them (a literary equivalent of a collage) by making changes in spacing and lines, or by adding or deleting text, thus imparting new meaning.
